Third grade is the first year students can participate in Student Council. Each class elects 2 representatives for the year. While they cannot hold the offices of President, Vice President, Treasurer, or Secretary, they still can be involved in helping out and making decisions. This is a year long commitment that invloves giving up some of your recess for meetings. If your child would like to run for a representative, please fill out the tear off sent home this past week. We need to know who our candidates are by Wednesday, so we can vote on Thursday.
This week we have a lot to get through, and only four days to get it all in! Monday we start the Pyschomotor program headed by the YMCA. Every Monday the students will go to P.E. from 9:20 to 10:15. Please come to school wearing shoes you can run in. Friday is our Lab day, normally we would go to Library or Computer Lab at 12:15 to 1:05 (switches each week) and Science Lab at 1:00 to 1:45 (every week). However, we do not have school this Friday so we will be starting next week.
This week we start Unit 1 of the Reading program. We will be doing theme projects for each unit. This unit is called "Let's Learn," so students will be teaching something to the class. More information on the project will come later. Also, since we are beginning our normal Language Arts program, another piece of homework will be added nightly.
This week we will have our first Math Test on Wednesday. Students will be tested on Place Value, Standard and Expanded Forms, Comparing Numbers, and Rounding.
Finally, this Tuesday night is Back to School Night. The first session is at 6:00, and the second at 6:45. Please come so that we can meet, discuss the upcomming year, and see the environment your child is learning in. I will aslo have a sign-up sheet for conferences in the fall available. Hope to see you there!
