I live with my husband and 2 children, Wyatt and Reagan, in a small home with a lot of history, and in a neighborhood with interesting wildlife. I enjoy cooking, reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. It is my goal to make learning fun and to encourage my students to do their best.
I enjoy hearing from parents and have no problem scheduling conferences You are more than welcome to call the Vintage Magnet Main Office and leave a message for me at 818-892-8661. The best way to communicate with me is through email at [email protected].

Attendance
Students should be at school each day ready to learn. First bell is at 8:10 am and school officially starts at 8:15 am. Any student who comes to school after 8:15 am will be marked tardy. Those pulled out from class early will also be marked as tardy. Should a student miss school, please send a note the day they return explaining the absence. Parents may call the school and request homework/classwork to pick up in the Main Office.
Homework
Recent studies have found that current homework practices are not improving student achievement, take away from family time, causes stress, and does not allow time for extracurricular activities (sports, youth groups, etc.). You can read some articles about these studies on the Resources tab. Those studies suggest that homework time should be the grade level times 10 (3rd grade x 10= 30 total minutes of homework), should be simple and effective, and allow for less stressful parent involvement.
In our class, homework will be given for the week on Monday, and is expected to be completed by Friday. This will include reading 20 minutes each day and filling in a "reading log" (reading will be working on their Tower of Books goal, and are encouraged to use our online reading log), the daily part of Paragraph of the Week, and basic math skills practice. Should a student fall behind in classwork, or is struggling in an area, then extra homework may be assigned to catch up or study.
Grading
The grading scale that I will be using is as follows:
100-90% Exceeding Standard 4 (check plus)
89-70% At Standard 3 (check)
69-50% Near Standard 2 (check minus)
49-0% Below Standard 1 (redo)
Tests will be graded and sent home on Fridays. Homework will be graded by students in class. Classwork will be graded with the check system.

Communication
Parents are encouraged to contact the teacher at anytime by calling the school or email. The class website will be updated on a regular basis to provide information in the blog section. School fliers and tear-offs that need to be signed will be sent home with students as they come up. Each Friday students will be given progress reports for the week stating their work in class, homework, behavior, and any comments from the teacher. Progress reports should be signed and returned on Monday. Please sign and return all tests and projects that are stamped.
Conferences are required for the first and second report card period. Other conferences may be requested by the teacher if students are behind academically, or if there are behavior issues. Parents may request a conference anytime.
Activities
We will be learning about each other's cultures and our American heritage. This may include discussions about different religions, holidays, food, and activities. If you do not want your child to participate due to religious restrictions, food allergies, or any other reason, please indicate on the form sent home at the beginning of the school year, and/or discuss with the teacher. Permission slips will be sent out for each activity.
**It is against school policy to allow campus birthday celebrations.
Parent Involvement
It is understood that many parents work and are not able to take a lot of extra time off, but I encourage you to at least be involved by discussing the day with your child. Parents are welcome to participate in class activities, field trips, or volunteer in the room. Parents will be notified of special events and activities so they may attend if they are able. LAUSD requires parent volunteers to apply, as well as get a TB test. More information and applications can be found here.
Parents may also donate items to the classroom. Items that may be donated may include: Hand Sanitizer, Paper Towels, Baby Wipes, Disinfectant Wipes, Facial Tissue, Printer Paper, Pencils, Pens, Glue Sticks, or fun items for our class general store.
