In Language Arts we have read the first 3 chapters of Because of Winn-Dixie and took our first comprehension test. We will continue with the next 3 chapters this week. We have finished our last narrative piece of writing and have started to learn about informational writing and the use of different thinking maps.
In Math we have been working on fractions. We have learned about and how to create equivalent fractions, simplifying, and comparing/ordering fractions with different denominators. We continue this week with mixed numbers and improper fraction. We will be taking a test on these skills this Friday.
Science we continue to learn about electricity and circuits, students have a quiz on Monday. They were told about this quiz and encouraged to take home their journals and textbooks to study. Meanwhile, in Social Studies we are learning about the Mexican rule of California, and its affect on our current culture.
In just a few weeks I will be closing the second grading period and filling in report cards. We will be meeting for a conference to go over your child's academic progress, behavior, and study habits. We will also be discussing upcoming Middle School choices. For this conference I will be using an online sign-up so you are able to see the times available as they fill up.
