In Language Arts I sent home the packet for our Community Organization project. Students need to fill and return the proposal this Monday, so that they may start their work right away.
In Math, we took our test on 0, 1, 2, 5, 9, and multiples of 10 as factors, as well as 2 step word problems. The class really seems to be understanding these well. This week we will cover the harder factors of 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8. After we test for these factors, we will start our multiplication race twice a week. More details to come.
In Science, we were able to interact a little more with our pet, Mike. We took notes on how he reacted to several different situations. This week we also took our test on plants, and did not do so well. After talking with the class, we have decided to let anyone who wants to try to raise their score by doing a science interview with me. Due to me having to get these interviews in during small increments of time here and there, it may not be right away that everyone get to meet with me. If you see two scores on their test, it means they interviewed.
This Thursday, we will be on our field trip to UCLA Stunt Ranch where we will be learning about native plants and the Chumash culture. Lunches need to be in containers that can be thrown away. Extra water needs to come along as well. Please dress your child in pants that day, we will be hiking in areas with poison oak. Also, sunscreen and and hat are highly recommended. You child will need to be able to carry everything in their backpack, so please do not send anything other than their lunch, a hat, and water. NO electronics or money. Make sure that you child is at school before 8:10 so that we can eat breakfast and be on the bus by 8:30. I have contacted the parents who were picked out of a hat to chaperon this trip. Thank you to all of you who were willing, I had so many!
This week I will be sending out forms for conference appointments. If you signed up for one at Back to School Night, then we are already booked and you will not receive a form. Later on you will be getting confirmation letters for our date and time. Also, book orders for the month of October are due this Friday.
Finally, thank you to those who helped at School Beautification Day and/or attended our restaurant night at Islands. Your support and school spirit is part of what makes Vintage so great!
