The past two weeks we have been working on the SBAC test. This is the test that replaced the CST and we had discussed this at our last parent conference. The class did very well with being on time and prepared, taking the test seriously, and working their best on the test itself. We officially finished this past Thursday, and celebrated with a movie and treat on Friday.
Due to the rigorous testing we kept the classwork to projects and specific to single content standards. We also got to start our Visual Arts program with Ms. Damon, and read some fun stories helping us connect with each other.
Even though testing is done, we are not finished learning. Students are still expected to work their best in all subjects, and participate in class activities, assignments, assessments, and homework. This week we begin our final Unit in Language Arts: Amazing Animals. We are also ending a long topic in Math: Perimeter and Area with a test on Friday. It is long and students are still a bit shaky in this subject, be sure to visit Khan Academy, Learnzillion, and review notes to study and be strong for the test. We also will be starting our final unit in Science (Earth Science) where we will be learning about the sun, moon, and stars.
Finally, we have our field trip to CSUN this Thursday. I will send home notes to parents who have been chosen to ride on the bus with us as chaperons. However, even if you are not chosen to ride the bus, you are more than welcome to meet us there. Students need to bring a backpack (no rolling backpacks) to carry some water, a possible hat, and sack lunch if they are not buying on campus. If students are buying on campus, I have put the money you have sent in a bag with their name on it. They will get it at lunch time, adults will accompany groups of students to each restaurant stand to help make choices and pay correctly. The available restaurants are Burger King, El Pollo Loco, and Del Taco- children's meals are not available. We will be seeing a large part of the campus and will be walking a good amount. Students need to wear tennis shoes, dress code is important to help identify who belongs to our school, and backpack as previously mentioned. Folders, binders, planners, homework, and electronics can stay home.
We have 8 weeks left of school left, and a lot more to learn. Thank you for your dedication in making your child's education a priority!
