This week is an important week with it being the last one before SBAC begins. We will be testing on geometric shapes and moving on to perimeter and area this week. We will also be doing our final story for this unit of Language Arts! There are several things that are ending this week as well: Psychomotor will be ending due to the start of the 8 week testing schedule of SBAC, the yard needs to be quiet so there are no distractions for classes that are testing. Also, we will be ending dance with Ms. Yost and starting Visual Arts next week.
This week, on Tuesday, we have St. Patrick's Day. Students are still expected to follow the dress code. Pinching will not be tolerated, but if students feel they need to be festive, they may incorporate green in other ways (jewelry, hair adornments, socks, shoes). There will be no celebration of the day. The following day, Wednesday, is Spring Picture Day. Be sure to fill out the picture background form that was sent home last week. If you do not send it in, the photographer will pick for you. This is a free dress day.
There have been some viruses going around the school/classroom. The first is a stomach flu, causing stomach pain, vomiting, and fever. It usually lasts 2 days. It seems this virus is about done with its rounds, but keep your child home if they vomit in the evening or before school. The other is an upper respiratory virus and usually comes with several infections ranging from sinus/ear infection, sore throat, strep throat, bronchitis, coughing, and general cold symptoms. This virus is highly contagious and lasts about 10 days. Please remind your child to wash their hands often and cover their cough/sneeze.
With that being said, we have the SBAC test coming next week, and it is of great importance that students are at school to test. There will be make up times, but students do best when testing with their class on the assigned day. Students will begin the Performance Task of the ELA test on Monday. However, they MUST be present for the pre-lesson that takes place this Friday. If a student is absent for this lesson they CAN NOT take the test on Monday.
To ensure your child performs well on the test:
- Be sure they get at least 8 hours of sleep the night before.
- Be sure they eat breakfast. If they do not eat at school then be sure they have something with protein, if they do eat at school, they must actually eat the breakfast on testing days.
- Encourage them to do their best job, take their time, and read all directions carefully.
- Be positive!
