Last week we continued to learn about the moon and watched the phases change from first quarter to waxing gibbous. Students should have filled out the moon logs every night and turned them in on Friday. Normally I would count this log as a grade towards the report card. However, I was absent on Monday and was unable to explain how to fill out the log. Most were done incorrectly, so I will be counting another assignment. This past Friday we started to learn about constellations, and will continue with them this week.
In Math, we finished our last topic covering all of the Common Core Standards. We will be doing some reviewing and a special project for open house. I want to be sure they are strong in all areas before moving on to fourth grade.
Language Arts continues to follow the curriculum, we have two stories left in this unit. Afterwards we will do some paired reading and some extra writing. We have been working on four paragraph essays, and learning new strategies with our new program.
This Wednesday is our field trip to the Stanley Mosk Courthouse. We will be leaving promptly at 8:30, so be sure to have your child to school on time. Backpacks are not needed, school dress code and walking shoes are a must. We will be going through security and metal detectors, so be sure your child is not carrying anything unnecessary in their pockets.
Finally, I sent home low grade notices for our final report card. If you have returned these already, thank you. If not, please be sure to send them back this week. Those that have requested a conference I have sent my open days and times on this past week's progress report.
