This week we are starting to work on Topic 18 in Math. This topic will be on area and perimeter. I have noticed that our class had some difficulties with understanding measurement, and converting one unit of measurement to another. Please be sure to be working with your child on multiplication since this is how we convert units, as well as area. If multiplication skills are not strong, they will find our current math difficult.
We are starting the first week of our new unit in Language Arts, titled: Amazing Animals. We will not be having a unit project since Science Fair Projects will take more time and I want students to dedicate their efforts to doing their best. However, in class we will be putting more emphasis on writing and I am hoping to extend our writing into multiple paragraph essays soon.
This past Monday, your child should have shown you the proposal packet for the Science Fair. Third grade students are REQUIRED to submit a Science Fair Project. As a class, we have gone over how to fill out the proposal, what is considered an acceptable project, and have reviewed what each category requires. These packets are due to me this Tuesday, March 25, 2014. If you would like to view the criteria and rubric for each category or reprint a proposal packet, please visit http://www.vintagemagnet.net/science-fair-documents.html. Once proposals are submitted, I will review them and approve them. Those that are not specific enough, are above grade level capabilities, or do not follow the criteria will be returned to be revised and resubmitted. Projects are due May 13, and those that receive a grade of 4 will be submitted to compete at the NASA Night Science Fair on May 27-30.
