Amid all of our activities, we also had Ms. Mourao stop in to show us a new online reading program that she signed us up for. The Ticket to Read program allows the teacher to set up reading goals for each student. Students then go to the website and practice reading skills and comprehension. I told the class they may use practice time as their reading log. Students were given their usernames and password, if you need a new one, let me know.
This week we continue to stay very busy. On Monday, we will be participating with the rest of 4th grade in a systems test for SBAC from 8:30 to 9:30. This is a test of the system and the test will not count towards students' scores. This Wednesday, we will do our culminating activity where we will watch the movie counterpart of the novel we have been studying. The novel final will be on Friday, we will not be having any spelling or vocabulary this week. This we will also begin our next ELA unit, which will be integrated with Science. This will be similar to what the class did with Native American Tribes, but with Biomes.
The field trip this past Thursday was excellent, one of the best I have been on. I did not get to take any pictures, but the students have great memories and I'm sure would give you a great tour if you were to visit Huntington Library as a family. The program kept the kids engaged and busy with 3 different experiments, kicking off our unit in Science.
I have approved almost all Science Fair Proposals that were turned into me on time. If your child has not turned their's in, or did not get approved, be sure to turn in in ASAP. I also have several who have not turned in Book Reports. This is not the time to start slacking.
This is our last week of normal schedules. Next week 5th grade starts SBAC testing, and then we will begin testing 2 weeks later. Intervention ends this week, and Computer Lab will be closed the next 7-8 weeks. After Testing we will have Open House, followed by Science Fair and NASA Night. We have a lot to pack into our final 10 weeks!
