In Math we continue to work on adding and subtracting whole numbers. Previous chapter test will be going home this week. This was the first Math test, so ususally students have trouble, not knowing what to expect. I found the biggest mistake students made was in reading directions and making sure that they have answered all questions. Be sure to go over the tests with your child so they understand their mistakes.
In Language Arts we have passed the middle of the book already, and will be taking a mid-book comprehension test this week. Also, be sure to study the vocabulary word each week, these are important to know in order to enhance their understanding of the text. We have also begun our new writing topic: their last birthday.
We have defined what a rock is in Science, and have learned that it is made up of minerals. To help us remember and understand, we have compared minerals and rocks to ingredients in cake. Ask your child to explain it to you one day this week.
This past Friday I sent home Progress Reports. Be sure to look it over (stapled in their planner) and sign it. The reports will stay in their planners to review if needed. Expect to see these every week.
Lastly, the SBAC scores were released this past week. This means you should be getting your child's results soon. Vintage did quite well compared to the district's average. I am posting a video on how to read the report, and will be happy to review it with you if need be.
