This was the last week for Unit 1 in Language Arts, titled "Let's Learn." We took a longer comprehension test that included a fluency test. We also got to learn about the many different plants that everyone became experts on. I was impressed with the amount of work the class put into their projects and would like to share some of them with you:
October is Anth-Bullying Month, and this Wednesday, October 9, is Unity Day. We are encouraging students we wear the color orange to show that they stand up against bullying. They may wear as much or little as they want, however it must be plain orange and not have any other pictures. Talk to your child about this issue, remind them to tell an adult if they, or someone they know, is being bullied. Also, discuss how bullying is repeated intimidation by causing physical, mental, or emotional harm to create a sense of power over another. We discuss this often as a class, work with the Second Step program, and just finished a book about bullies.
In science, we are finishing our last section about the growth of seeds, and will be heading into the study of the life systems of crayfish. To help us better understand and study this life form, we have adopted a crayfish. While we will be studying him for the next few weeks, he will be a part of our class for the duration of the school year. As a class we have chosen a name, and will be learning responsibility and respect for other life. Meet Mike: (in top right corner on top of filter)
